About Data Mapping
The Violence Prevention Alliance, along with its partners, utilizes data — through maps and geospatial analysis — in decision-making to reduce or eradicate violence nationwide. In partnership with the Mona Geoinformatics Institute (MGI), VPA maps and spatially analyses all collected data, giving a true visual representation of where vulnerable spaces prone to crime and violence exist across the island.
Data Mapping Objectives
- ✓Collect data from institutions that receive or provide information on violence-related cases
- ✓Use primary and secondary data for interpretation and analysis
- ✓Detect and quantify/qualify cases by severity, context and outcome
- ✓Make predictions based on observed patterns
- ✓Generate spatial analysis maps for each community’s crime and violence situation
Our Partnership with MGI
With established standards and STATIN-based community boundaries, VPA and the Mona Geoinformatics Institute have established an extensive catalog of community-based tabulated data analysis and spatial analysis maps — providing much-needed data for intervention and monitoring & evaluation purposes.
